Why work orders matter
A work order is the bridge between dispatch and invoice. Done well, it gives you:
- A record of what actually happened. When a customer calls in 6 months saying "this is the same problem," you have notes from last time.
- Customer signoff. The customer signed off on the work being completed satisfactorily — that's a defense if a payment dispute happens.
- Material and labor capture for invoicing. The tech writes down what they used and how long they were on site. The office turns that into an invoice without retyping.
- Future-job context. Equipment serial, refrigerant type, last service date — all the details next visit's tech needs.
